Under the commission of the EU and the Coordination of the UNDP, Sustainera experts carried out the development of a comprehensive medium- and long-term greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy (LEDS Azerbaijan). The strategy was developed as a follow-up to “National Communication 4” according to which our team determined accurate practices and actions in order to eliminate the impacts on climate change.
The Sustainera team applied the LEAP model when re-configuring and expanding the existing strategy and communications manner of the government on the way towards “Net zero emissions by 2027 and beyond”. When conducting this project our diverse team of experts took into consideration the regional and international economical, social and environmental situation; the local and global oil market developments; the evolutions in the climate change indicators and political agenda of the Azerbaijani government, all with regards to the transition to the green economy. The team also facilitated a clear and integrated communication plan to inform the parties delivering the strategy and those being affected by its impact.
Through our partnerships, the Sustainera team successfully conducted this year-long project with 12 national experts who were supported by UNDP’s international consultant. Sustainera team delivered the project with the accurate technical information and tools that the government needs for a long-term sustainable strategy. The working process underwent the most ethical, participatory, inclusive and gender-mainstream approach.
